How to Exfoliate the Right Way with the Kage Scrub

Rae, the Kage Skin Care guide, using the Scrub at the sink

By Rachel Hawkins, licensed esthetician, 25+ years · November 2026

The Scrub is the one product I recommend for every skin type, which is why it's part of every Kage skin quiz result. Here's how to get the most out of it.

Why exfoliate?

Your skin sheds cells constantly. When they build up, skin looks dull, pores look bigger, and your other products can't do their job. Gentle exfoliation clears the way.

✨ Ask Rae: Light pressure, small circles, 30–60 seconds. Let the Scrub do the work.

Step by step

  1. Cleanse first and leave your skin damp.
  2. Take a pea- to dime-sized amount.
  3. Massage in small, light circles for 30–60 seconds. Let the product do the work.
  4. Pay a little extra attention to the nose, chin and forehead. Skip the delicate eye area.
  5. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.
  6. Follow with toner, your treatment step and moisturizer.

How often?

  • Oily or breakout-prone: daily or every other day
  • Normal or combination: 3–5 times a week
  • Dry or sensitive: 2–3 times a week, with very light pressure

On the go? There's a Travel Scrub too.

FAQ

Can I use the Scrub with salicylic acid? Yes. Scrub first, then apply your clarifying step.

My skin feels tight after scrubbing. What should I do? Use lighter pressure, scrub less often, and follow with the Hydrating Toner and a moisturizer.

Morning or night? Whichever you'll stick with. Many people prefer night.

Ask Rae: take the skin quiz and get matched to the right Kage products for your skin, the same way Rachel would in her treatment room.
